What are crowns?

CEREC ® crowns are milled in our office in one visit from porcelain blocks to cover a tooth to protect it from fracturing or breaking. Crowns are used to protect teeth that have had big extensive fillings or molar teeth that have had root canal treatments.

Signs You Need A Crown

  • You want to improve the appearance of a tooth
  • You have had a root canal

What Can I Expect During My Appointment?

After the porcelain is shaped and polished, your dentist will install it over top of your existing tooth, cementing it into place. This whole process can be done in one visit over 4-6 hours!

Your dentist will examine the tooth in need of a crown and take several pictures of it from multiple angles.

Using these pictures, a computer program builds a model of your tooth and uses this to shape a piece of porcelain to match.
